How to Use Acupressure to Induce Labor

Acupressure refers to applying pressure on certain spots on your body to induce labor. It is very common to use acupressure to ripen the cervix. There are several acupressure points that can induce labor including SP 6, L4, BL 67, BL 60, Bladders 32, and C7.

The SP 6 acupressure points are located above the ankle bone. To find the SP6 acupressure point, you must use your fingers to measure 5 finger lengths from the ankle bone. The SP6 acupressure points are situated near the rear of the leg. You should use your thumb to press on the acupressure point.

The L4 point is situated between the index finger and thumb.  To massage the L4 acupressure point, you can use your other hand to slightly pinch it. You must press in the direction of the index finger.

The BL 67 acupressure point is situated right to the toenail of the little toe. It lies just outside of the little toe. It can be difficult to find the BL67 point.

The BL 60 acupressure point can be found midway in between the lateral malleolus and the Achilles tendon on your leg. The BL60 is situated in a depression near the ankle. To exert pressure on the BL60 point, you can a partner to grip the ankles and press the location with their thumb. When applying pressure on this acupressure point, make sure you don’t press too forcefully otherwise it will cause the area to become bruised.

The Bladder 32 acupressure point is situated in between buttock and spine. Many people find it hard to locate the Bladder 32 point. To find the spot, you can use your finger to trace a line at the backbone. The Bladder 32 point is a dimple in between the buttocks and spine. To massage the spot, you can press on it gently for about 5 minutes.

The C7 acupressure point is situated on the muscle of the neck and shoulders. To locate the point, you can use your finger to trace a line in between the prominent bone on your neck and the shoulder joint top. It is located in the middle of the curved line. When you press against it, you will feel slightly numb.

By massaging the above acupressure points, you will be able to induce your labor. It is recommended that repeat the acupressure massage up to 6 cycles each time you attempt to massage the area. If you don’t know how to perform the acupressure, you can hire an acupressure expert.
